FAQs

Why does the fusion splicer always prompt "Arc Offset" or "Arc Calibration Failed" during discharging?

Common Causes:

Environmental Changes: Significant shifts in air pressure, temperature, or humidity (e.g., moving from indoors to a high-altitude outdoor site).

Electrode Aging: Heavy carbon buildup on the electrodes, or they have reached the end of their lifespan.

Solutions:

Always perform an Arc Calibration whenever you change your working environment or replace the electrodes, allowing the machine to automatically adjust the current.

If the arc calibration fails repeatedly, try cleaning the carbon buildup off the electrodes using a cotton swab dipped in alcohol, or replace them with a new pair.

What causes excessive splice loss?

Troubleshooting Steps:

Poor Cleave Angle: The fiber cleaver blade is worn out or dirty, resulting in burrs or a cleave angle that is too large (greater than 1 degree).

Dirty V-Grooves or Clamps: Microscopic dust particles can cause the fibers to misalign axially.

Mismatched Fiber Types: For example, attempting to splice Single-Mode (SM) with Multi-Mode (MM) fibers.

Solutions:

Clean the fiber and re-cleave it.

Use a specialized brush or an alcohol-swapped cotton bud to clean the V-grooves and objective lenses.

Ensure the current splicing program selected on the machine (e.g., Auto, SM, MM) matches the actual fiber type.

The screen shows a "dark line" or a "bubble" at the splice point. Will this affect performance?

Impact Assessment: Yes, it will severely affect transmission quality. A dark line usually indicates poor alignment or damaged fiber, while bubbles mean air or impurities are trapped inside the splice.

Main Causes:The fiber end-face was not cleaned properly, leaving coating residue, dust, or moisture. The cleave quality was poor, leaving a highly uneven end-face.

Correct Procedure:Strictly follow the "Strip→Clean→Cleave" sequence.Remember, once the fiber is cleaved, its end-face must never touch any surface. Place it directly into the fusion splicer and redo the splice.

What should I do if the heater fails to heat up, or the fiber protection sleeve does not shrink completely?

Troubleshooting Steps:

Check Heating Parameters: Confirm that the selected heating mode matches the length of the protection sleeve you are using (e.g., 40mm or 60mm).

Check the Heater Lid: Some models require the heater lid to be completely closed to trigger the heating process.

Adjust Heating Time: In cold or low-temperature environments, the default heating time might be insufficient. You can manually extend the heating time or increase the heating temperature in the settings.

How should I maintain and care for the fusion splicer daily?

Three Golden Rules of Maintenance:

Keep it Clean (Most Important): After every job, use a blower brush to remove fiber shards and dust from the fiber clamps, V-grooves, and mirrors. Periodically clean the objective lenses gently with a slightly moistened alcohol swab.

Electrode Management: Electrodes typically have a lifespan of 3,000 to 5,000 arcs. Replace them promptly once the arc count reaches its limit or if the tips show severe oxidation.

Battery Care: If the device will not be used for a long time, charge the lithium battery to about 50%–70%, remove it, and store it separately. Recharge and discharge it every 2 to 3 months to prolong its lifespan.
